Kinabalu National Park

Kinabalu Park, also known as Taman Kinabalu in Malay language. Kinabalu National Park surrounds Mount Kinabalu (13,454 feet), the highest peak in Southeast Asia. Established as a national park in 1964, it covers 291 square miles (754sq km).The park has become the focus of naturalists and nature lovers.

Vegetation in the park is diverse ranging from lowland rainforest to temperate mountain oaks to alpine conifers. More than 1,200 species of wild orchids and 40 species of oaks can be found in the park. At the park, you may enjoy a jungle walk into the temperate forests (altitude 5101feet) . The forest trails are graded and the walk may last 1 1/2 hours. Here daily temperatures range from 13 to 20 degrees Centigrade. Accommodation available includes hostel, chalets and cabins.

The 2-hour journey to the Kinabalu Park from Kota Kinabalu via the Tuaran highway, driving past rice fields, rubber plantations, small towns and scattered villages.
